Today he prevailed against Nima Roshan (AUS) but it took two tiebreakers to do it. Later in the afternoon he faced Nima Roshan again, this time with his doubles partner Marcus Fugate (USA) and it took 3 tiebreakers to come away with the win. Matt and Adrians Zguns (LAT) lost the first set 8-6 in a tiebreaker, won the second set 8-4 in a tiebreaker and won the match in the third set supertiebreaker 10-7. Tomorrow Matt Roberts will face Marcus Fugate again in their second round singles match.
Separated by 56 positions in the world ranking system (Matt at 539 and Marcus at 595), this promises to be a great match. They both got a glimpse of the others games in the doubles match today and the crowd will be in for some great tennis. Last year Matt and Marcus both lost to the winner of the tournament, Marcus in the semi-finals and Matt in the finals.
