She is a nurse that works with St. Vincent and loves tennis. Sadly, she was diagnosed with cancer, but she proudly overcame her illness and today played tennis along the Pros during the mixed doubles Pro-AM! This year, she signed on last minute, but she really had fun. While watching her, I noticed that she was very active and worked extremely hard to help her team.
When asked what she really enjoyed about the tournament was that there was a real sense of community. Everyone comes together to play a great game of tennis. Even though people come from all over the world such as India, Venezuela, Serbia, and many other countries, they all understand the same language. That language is tennis. No interpreter is needed when it comes to two or four people playing against each other in a friendly game of tennis.
Today she played with Luis from Venezuela. She’s been playing tennis for four years, but she looked like a pro as she hits the ball around! She stated, “I enjoyed playing so much that I might want to host a player next year”.
When asked about the international aspects of the tournament, she said that she really enjoyed getting to know people from different countries.
The USTA Pro Circuit really helps put Little Rock on the map for all of those who follow the tournaments and all of those who come to visit our beautiful city. Ball sports were never something she liked, but when it comes to tennis, she loves to jump on the court!
From a wonderful nurse, to cancer survivor, to tennis player, Joann Anderson is definitely someone that has overcome adversities and conquered.
