On Court 1, its an all Australian battle with 2009 doubles champion Kaden Hensel (#452, Univ. of Tennessee) takes on Brydan Klein (#441). Should be a fair amount of firepower in this one as both players have pretty big groundstrokes from the baseline and big serves. This is best matchup of the day as far as similar rankings and should be good one.
On Court 2, the #3 seed from Australian John Millman (#263) takes on the lefty from Sweden Michael Ryderstedt (#461). Millman has a super quick all court game and will hit all day if necessary to win a point. Ryderstedt has been as high at #150 in doubles in 2008 and has a lot of shots in his bag and moves his serve around nicely. He demolished the #5 seed 1 & 3 in his last match. If Ryderstedt can stay patient against Millman, this one could go down to the wire.
The second set of quarterfinal singles matches includes some of the hottest players in the tournament. These matches will kick off after the first set of matches complete, not before 11 AM Friday.
An All American battle will take place on court 2 as #1 seed Lester Cook (#215, Texas A&M) takes on former Razorback Blake Strode (#524). Fans should expect a lot of groundstrokes in this one as neither player possess huge power but have solid all court games and great movement. Should be some great points and lots of hitting. Strode had two tough, grinding matches yesterday and if he can get his legs back and serve going, he is capable of pulling off the upset. Cook has a very steady, patient game that could wear Strode down if he his legs start to go. Free points on his serve will be a must and as good as Cook returns, that might be tough.
Big serving American 18 year old Alexander Domijan (#656) takes on the #4 seed Leonardo Tavares of Portugal. Domijan is huge at 6’7″ and possess the big serve to go with it. Tavares is a much smaller player but cat quick and a very versatile game. Will be interesting to see which style of play can win today. Tavares should try to move Domijan around and keep the ball low to make him work to hit groundstrokes. If Domijan can dial up the big serve and hang in there, things could get interesting. All depends on who is able to force their will on the other player as its probably the biggest contrast in styles in this year’s quarterfinals.
Hope to see you at PVCC today, bring your sunscreen!
