Ann Loomis served on the St. Vincent’s Auxiliary Professional Tennis Committee for 27 years. She loved her involvement with this tournament. She thrived on the planning process each year and took great pride in her day to day involvement. She was always in the middle of the action and ran the tournament room efficiently and professionally. Every USTA Pro Circuit Supervisor knew that if Ann was handling the tournament room, everything was going to run smoothly. Ann praised all those she worked with in helping to organize such a prestigious event. Her passion for tennis inspired others to do their best. She was called upon for advice and counsel on every aspect of the event and her opinion on matters was valued.
Ann Loomis was committed to her community, her friends and her family. In addition to promoting tennis, Ann volunteered with cancer patients after her husband died of cancer in 1993. She worked in the waiting room of the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute chatting with patients and families. She, herself was a breast cancer survivor. Ann was most proud of her family and divided her time traveling to visit her son, Dr. Jim Loomis and grandsons in St. Louis and her daughter Myke Loomis in Destin, Florida.
She is a role model for all of us through her dedication and leadership in which she demonstrated by her example. She touched lives in a special way with everyone whom she came in contact with.
We will miss Ann, but she will never be forgotten. A special memorial has been created to recognize the legacy Ann left behind. The Ann Loomis Sportsmanship Award will be given each year to the player in the tournament who demonstrates dedication, sportsmanship and commitment to the game in the same way this special lady did everyday.
